Coming from a middle-class family in Los Angeles, consultant Lisa Greer lived in a household where the term “philanthropy” was never used, and charitable giving was mostly limited to small donations directed to local nonprofits. A decade ago, Lisa and her husband Josh became part of the “1%” overnight and immediately tried to make major gifts to organizations they knew from personal experience (i.e. hospitals, religious institutions). The engagement with the nonprofits they approached showed that new donors were not welcome to “join the party”. Learn how and why Lisa and her husband got past that initial challenge and became an example of the “new breed” of donors.
